Conference replaced by National League

The fifth and sixth tiers of English football will be known as the National League from next season, replacing the long-standing Conference name.

The National League will replace the long-standing Conference name in a re-branding initiative at the fifth and six tiers of English football.

The new name will officially come into effect on June 6, with the change being accompanied by a new logo and a three-year television broadcasting deal with BT Sport.

New Vanarama National League chairman Brian Barwick said: "I am delighted to be joining at this vibrant time with this exciting new branding.

"It offers so much to our existing partners, while at the same time opening up potential new opportunities. I look forward to steering this great competition to new levels of awareness and visibility."

The Conference Premier will become the Vanarama National League, while the Conference North and South will be known as the National League North and National League South respectively.
