United Arab Emirates-based Al Wasl decide to sack Argentinian legend Diego Maradona as the club's manager.

Diego Maradona has been relieved of his managerial duties with Al Wasl.

The United Arab Emirates-based club came to the decision following a board meeting to evaluate the way in which the team was being run.

"Following a meeting held by the board of directors of Al Wasl Football Company held today, to evaluate the technical staff of Al Wasl Football Team under the leadership of coach Diego Maradona, it was decided to terminate the services of coach Diego Maradona and his technical staff," read a statement from the club.

The former Argentine striker spent one season in charge of the club, guiding them to eighth place in the league.

His side also reached the semi-final and quarter-final of the Etisalat and President's Cup respectively, as well as losing the final of the GCC Champions League despite a 3-1 opening-leg lead.
