Preview: Norwich City vs. Wigan Athletic

Sports Mole looks ahead to struggling Wigan Athletic's trip to high-flying Norwich City in the Championship.

Promotion-chasing Norwich City can make it seven consecutive wins in the Championship on Wednesday when they welcome struggling Wigan Athletic to Carrow Road.

The Canaries moved up to third place in the table on the weekend with a vital 2-0 win over local rivals Ipswich Town.

Alex Neil's side now sit one point adrift of the automatic playoff spots, and a victory over Wigan could see them enter the top two.

Despite their impressive form over the past few weeks, the Scot has warned his players that they must continue to work hard if they want to reach the promised land of the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the Latics boosted their slim survival hopes on Saturday with a 3-1 victory away to fellow strugglers Blackpool.

However, after picking up just their sixth win of the campaign, Malky Mackay's men still have an imposing nine-point gap to make up before they reach safety.

Mackay enjoyed a six-year playing career with Norwich before he moved to West Ham United in 2004.

Norwich ran out 1-0 winners when the teams met at the DW Stadium earlier this season, with Jonny Howson scoring the only goal of the game with just five minutes played.

Cameron Jerome should be available for the hosts after suffering a foot injury against Ipswich. Norwich have no other injury concerns heading into the game.

Scott Carson is likely to keep his place in goal for the visitors ahead of Ali Al Habsi, while Leon Clarke could start following a shoulder injury.
