Portsmouth chief: 'Club will take time over managerial appointment'

Portsmouth chief-executive Mark Catlin reveals that a new manager is unlikely to be appointed before the end of the season.

Portsmouth chief executive Mark Catlin has insisted that the League Two club are in no rush to land a new manager.

Andy Awford left Fratton Park by mutual consent last week, just days after a costly defeat at Morecambe all but ended Pompey's hopes of claiming a playoff place.

Many names have already been linked with the vacant position, including former Hull City boss Phil Brown and rookie manager Shefki Kuqi, but Catlin says that a decision is unlikely to be made before the end of the season.

"Personally I think it would be worth waiting a few weeks to get the right man," he told BBC Sport. "It's difficult to put a timeline on it as there are people on the list that may be currently employed and who have jobs to finish off at their current club.

"It could end up waiting until the end of May. I know that's not ideal, but what we don't want to do is take someone now just because they are available, so we might have to wait another six weeks."

Portsmouth have lost their last three league games, which has left them in 16th place in the current standings.
