Rio Ferdinand has admitted that his Manchester United teammate Patrice Evra may have gone over the top with his post-match celebrations yesterday afternoon.
United full-back Evra saluted the club's fans right in front of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who had earlier refused to shake his hand during the pre-match handshakes following his eight-game ban for racially abusing the Frenchman.
Despite conceding that Evra's actions were "a bit much", Ferdinand has suggested that he can understand the reasons behind the defender's decision.
"I'm sure Patrice Evra will feel that his celebrations at the end were maybe a bit much...emotions etc probably got the better of him," Ferdinand wrote on Twitter.
United won the encounter 2-1.
