Sheffield United have announced that they have completed the club-record signing of Brentford defender John Egan.
Chris Wilder has been relatively quiet in the transfer market ahead of the new Championship season, but the Blades boss has now moved to make a significant addition in Egan.
The 25-year-old has spent the last two years at Griffin Park, with six goals being scored in 67 Championship appearances, but the Republic of Ireland international has now made the switch to Yorkshire.
Sheffield United have not disclosed the fee, but it is higher than the £4m which was paid to sign James Beattie in 2007.
Egan - who has penned a four-year deal - arrives at Bramall Lane for his second spell, having completed a one-month loan period at the club towards the end of the 2011-12 campaign.
