Spain striker David Villa has confirmed that he will retire from international football after the World Cup.

The 32-year-old has scored 56 goals in 94 games for his country since making his senior debut in 2005.

Villa won the European Championship with Spain in 2008 before going on to achieve World Cup glory in 2010.

"At the World Cup I'll be playing my last games for Spain," he told Spanish television channel Cuatro.

Villa recently joined Major League Soccer side New York City after spending one season at Atletico Madrid.
