Tottenham Hotspur fear that key central defender Jan Vertonghen could miss the next two months of the campaign, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly fearful of being without key central defender Jan Vertonghen for the next two months of the campaign.

Vertonghen has missed Tottenham's last two matches with the hamstring problem that he picked up against Huddersfield Town on September 29.

Spurs were believed to have initially put a six-week timescale on the defender's return, but according to The Mirror, the Belgian is expected to miss at least eight weeks.

If that proves to be the case, Vertonghen would miss the remainder of Tottenham's Champions League group-stage campaign, in addition to Premier League matches against the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino's side bounced back from last week's 4-2 home defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League by recording a 1-0 win over Cardiff City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
