Mauricio Pochettino: 'No extra pressure on Vincent Janssen'

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino insists that there is no extra pressure on striker Vincent Janssen, despite his failure to score from open play.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has backed striker Vincent Janssen to end his run of games without scoring from open play.

Since making the switch from AZ Alkmaar in the summer, Janssen's only goals for Spurs have come from the penalty spot but Pochettino has said that the club are placing no extra pressure on their £17m signing.

The 44-year-old is quoted as saying by ESPN: "The expectation always was to share with another striker, Harry Kane, that's true.

"It's also true that the pressure today because of Harry's injury is massive. But he is calm, we are calm. We are people that we don't add more pressure to him.

"He will score, from open play it's difficult but he's scored two penalties, and the penalty against Liverpool will be good for him to build his confidence."

Janssen could be named in the starting lineup when Spurs host Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
