Tottenham Hotspur to pay £2.5m for Emmanuel Adebayor release?

Tottenham Hotspur may have to pay around £2.5m to settle the remainder of Emmanuel Adebayor's contract, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly have to pay at least £2.5m if they are to offload out-of-favour striker Emmanuel Adebayor this summer.

The Togolese international looked set to move across London and join West Ham United in January before chairman Daniel Levy is believed to have vetoed the deal, having seen the East End outfit as potential Champions League rivals.

However, The Telegraph claims that Levy is keen to show Adebayor the door at the end of the season.

One stumbling block may be the fact that the ex-Arsenal frontman still has a year on his £100,000-a-week contract and there are few clubs thought to be willing to match his salary.

The Hammers were offering to pay half of his wages and are said to remain interested in taking the player to Upton Park for next season.

However, former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood could look to take Adebayor to Aston Villa, having used the striker up front during his brief spell in the White Hart Lane hotseat.
