Garry Monk trusts Football Association over Jonjo Shelvey incident

Garry Monk trusts the Football Association to make the right decision after Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey appeared to elbow Liverpool counterpart Emre Can on Monday.

Swansea City boss Garry Monk has said that he trusts the Football Association's judgement if it decides to retrospectively punish Jonjo Shelvey.

The 22-year-old midfielder appeared to fling an elbow at Emre Can in Monday's 4-1 defeat at Liverpool, with the incident going unpunished by referee Andre Marriner.

Shelvey himself took to Twitter afterwards to stress that there was no malice on his part, but Monk says that he backs the FA over whatever conclusion it reaches.

"I haven't seen the replays," he told Sky Sports News. "I trust the authorities to do the right thing, if it is what is is."

Alberto Moreno had fired the hosts into a 1-0 lead at the break, before a freak second goal from Adam Lallana doubled the advantage on 51 minutes.

Gylfi Sigurdsson reduced the arrears moments later, before a Shelvey own goal and another from Lallana capped a resounding win for the Merseysiders.
