Torino edge past Parma

Matteo Darmian scores the only goal as Torino clinch a 1-0 win over Parma in Serie A.

An early goal from Matteo Darmian has given Torino a narrow 1-0 win over bottom club Parma in Serie A this evening.

Torino looked the more threatening from the start, and needed just 10 minutes to take the lead as Bruno Peres found Darmian on the edge of the box, leaving the striker to fire a swerving effort into the back of the net.

Jose Mauri and Francesco Lodi created several half-chances in a bid to level for Parma, but the visitors were unable to threaten before the end of the opening 45 minutes.

Afriyie Acquah almost got Parma back on level terms just before the hour mark as he struck the ball first time, but Jean-Francois Gillet punched it clear before turning a Massimo Coda shot wide moments later, keeping Torino ahead.

There were controversial scenes inside the final 15 minutes as substitute Parma goalkeeper Alex Cordaz was shown a red card for protesting against a refereeing decision.

Fabio Quagliarella could have put the win beyond doubt late on, but his effort from just a few yards out was straight at Antonio Mirante.

The win lifts Torino up to 11th, while Parma remain rooted to the foot of the table.
