David Moyes: 'Valencia have unrealistic expectations'

Former Real Sociedad boss David Moyes claims that managers of Valencia will always struggle to meet the club's expectations.

Former Real Sociedad boss David Moyes has claimed that Valencia have unrealistic expectations, which will make it a difficult job for Gary Neville.

Neville took charge of Los Che at the start of December, but had to wait until February 13 to record his first La Liga win, which came against Espanyol.

Moyes, who was sacked by Sociedad earlier this season, has said that Valencia's belief that they can challenge for the La Liga title will always place pressure on their manager.

"He will be glad to get that first win out of the way, but I can tell you, anybody who has been to Valencia, their expectations are through the roof," he told Sky Sports News.

"Of all the clubs in Spain, they are the one club who think they should be challenging Real Madrid and Barcelona. It is very difficult to touch those two teams. They had a good team last year, they qualified for the Champions League, they played good stuff, they have got a really demanding crowd.

"After the game when we played them, the first thing in the press conference was, 'do you think Valencia can compete and get above Barcelona and Real Madrid?' and I felt like saying, 'you have no chance of that happening', because the two teams are too powerful and too strong."

Valencia are six-time winners of La Liga, but they have not finished top of the pile since the 2003-04 season.
