Spanish midfielder Cani has insisted that he never thought about leaving Villarreal after penning a new four-year deal with the Yellow Submarine.
The 32-year-old, whose previous deal was due to expire in the summer, committed his long-term future to the La Liga side at the weekend by agreeing terms on a new contract.
"I did not want to listen to anyone else, I just wanted to talk to Villarreal and since then it has proven not necessary to listen to anyone else," Cani told reporters at a press conference. "The thing I wanted was to stay in the place where I wanted to be, where it is best for me, and that is certainly Villarreal.
"Here I am great, I'm a '10', I could not find anywhere better. The ambition that I have is intact and the same as the first day that I arrived at this club. I may lack the ego of previous seasons, but I am well and my idea is to contribute and to enjoy things.
"I consider myself a person of this club, I have never thought about whether it would be for many years or for few. If I have spent a long time here, then it is because I am very happy and feel part of the club. You can see that I am part of the club and I feel it."
Cani joined Villarreal in 2006.
