John Kear has returned to management with Co-operative Championship side Batley Bulldogs.
The former Wakefield coach, who left the Wildcats earlier this year, has dropped down a division to link up with the Bulldogs.
"It's a different challenge for me and will take me out of my comfort zone," the 56-year-old told BBC Radio Leeds.
"I'm used to the luxury of full-time athletes at my beck and call. Well, now it's a different challenge."
Kear replaces Karl Harrison, who has joined local rivals Halifax.
