Victorious Cardiff Blues denied top spot in Pool One

A 28-3 victory over Grenoble at the Stade des Alpes is not enough for Cardiff Blues to claim top spot in European Challenge Cup Pool 1.

Cardiff Blues have defeated Grenoble 28-3 at the Stade des Alpes this afternoon, although it was not enough for them to claim top spot in European Challenge Cup Pool One.

The Blues, who came into this match on the back of a club-record European win over Rovigo last time out, needed to win in France and hope that London Irish slipped up against the group's whipping boys elsewhere.

However, a Ofisa Treviranus hat-trick inspired the Aviva Premiership side to a 34-6 victory, meaning that the Blues will have to make due with second place.

Lloyd Williams crossed over for the first-half's only try, although James Hart managed to find the sticks with a successful kick shortly after to keep the scoreline close going into the break.

Cardiff were awarded two penalty tries in the second 40 minutes, with Grenoble reduced a man on two occasions to severely dent their hopes of claiming anything from the match.

Navidi managed to add try number four in the dying stages to claim a bonus point for his side, but the joy was rather tinged with the disappointment of having missed out on top spot.
