Jim Mallinder wants Northampton Saints to build on their victory over Ulster in the Heineken Cup yesterday.

Jim Mallinder has said that Northampton Saints must maintain the quality of rugby that they showed in their victory over Ulster yesterday.

The Heineken Cup loss was Ulster's first of the season, having easily beaten the Saints last week.

The Saints boss told BBC Radio Northampton: "You have highs and lows but particularly on the back of last week's spanking, where we really did come a distant second, it was very pleasing.

"We got quite a lot of criticism and I guess quite rightly. But it's showed us how we can play and we've got to make sure the bar remains very high.

"I'd guess that massive win against us didn't help them. You read in the press very positive things about everything that's good about Ulster and sometimes that can backfire on you."

The win means Northampton still have a chance of qualifying for the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
