Andy Murray baffled by fuss over his mid-game haircut against Rafael Nadal

Andy Murray says that he is baffled that his mid-game hair trim against Rafael Nadal has been made into a "big deal".

British number one Andy Murray has claimed that he does not understand why his mid-game haircut against Rafael Nadal at the ATP World Tour Finals has attracted so much attention.

During the first break between games this afternoon, the Scotsman pulled out a pair of scissors and trimmed his fringe.

The footage of Murray's brief haircut went viral, but the 28-year-old, who ended up losing to Nadal in straight sets, has brushed away suggestions that next week's Davis Cup distracted him.

"I don't know why such minor things make such a big deal to you guys," Murray told reporters. "I had some hair in my eye, and I just wanted to get rid of it. That literally took two seconds. That was it. It was nothing to do with next week or anything to do with the outcome of this match.

"I started the match extremely well, I think. I played a very good first game. Although I got broke in the second game, it was a good game. I was hitting the ball well.

"I held all the way through to 4-All from that change of end. It wasn't like it was something that affected me at all after it happened."

Murray can still qualify for the semi-finals in London's O2 Arena if he beats Stanislas Wawrinka in his final group match.
