Laura Robson seals her place in the second round of the Australian Open with a straightforward victory over Melanie Oudin.

Laura Robson has set up a second-round meeting with eighth seed Petra Kvitova courtesy of a 6-2 6-3 victory over Melanie Oudin.

The 18-year-old took control of the contest early on, breaking the American in her first service game to go 2-0 in front.

Oudin had no answer to Robson's relentless torrent of winning shots in the first set as the Brit took a vise-like grip on proceedings.

Robson looked like she was sailing to a second-round berth by going a break up early in the second, but Oudin struck back as she battled to extend the match to a third set.

However, she could not maintain her challenge, finding the net far too often as Robson sauntered into the next round.
