Andy Murray sends Great Britain through to Davis Cup semi-final

Andy Murray recovers from one set down to beat Gilles Simon, thus sending Great Britain through to the Davis Cup semi-finals.

Great Britain secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup this afternoon thanks to Andy Murray, who recorded a 4-6 7-6[5] 6-3 6-0 victory over France's Gilles Simon.

World number three Murray had earlier helped Britain to open up a 2-1 lead thanks to a win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Friday's singles clash and he then triumphed alongside his brother Jamie in yesterday's doubles.

However, it initially appeared that the Scot was heading for a defeat when he surrendered the first set to his opponent and was soon broken in the second set.

Yet, Murray responded to force a tie-breaker, during which he recovered from 4-1 down to win 7-5.

From that moment onwards the 28-year-old was dominant against his opponent, who appeared to be hampered by injury, which meant that he won just three more games in the encounter at Queen's Club.

The British side will now take on Australia at home for a place in the final in September.
