Novak Djokovic promises to come back stronger following his defeat to Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open.

Novak Djokovic has vowed to come back stronger following his defeat to Rafael Nadal in the French Open final.

The Serbian was denied the title at Roland Garros for a second time by the Spaniard, who claimed a 3-6 7-5 6-2 6-4 victory on Sunday.

"It was a very emotional day and I gave everything," Djokovic is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "Thanks to the fans for all the passion and emotion they have shown throughout the tournament.

"The trophy was a bit too far out of reach this year but I will come back again and again until I win it."

Sunday's triumph saw Nadal win the French Open for a record ninth time.
