Jo-Wilfried Tsonga eased past compatriot Edouard Roger-Vasselin in straight sets to progress into the second round of the French open.

Tsonga needed a 7-4 tiebreak win to claim the opening set over his fellow Frenchman, inflicting two breaks of serve en route to an early advantage.

Likewise, little could seperate the pair in the second set as the duo rattled off four games apiece, but Roger-Vasselin's resistance soon waned as the world number 14 ultimately edged it 7-5.

Roger-Vasellin's performance gradually declined as the match progressed and Tsonga claimed the third set 6-2 to move into the next round.
