Janko Tipsarevic beats world number one Novak Djokovic in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the Madrid Open.

Janko Tipsarevic has beaten world number one Novak Djokovic to reach the semi-finals of the Madrid Open.

Despite a tight first set, Tipsarevic got the better of an out-of-sorts Djokovic in the tie-break with a 7-2 win.

Djokovic slumped further in the second as his fellow Serbian found the decisive break to go 4-2 ahead.

The five-time major winner threatened a comeback late on, but Tipsarevic held out to clinch the set 6-2 and reach the semi-finals.
