Arsene Wenger irked by Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim "lies"

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger labels Monaco counterpart Leonardo Jardim a 'liar' for suggesting that he snubbed a post-match handshake at the Emirates last month.

Arsene Wenger has said that he is disappointed to hear the "lies" spewn by Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim in the wake of Arsenal's Champions League exit.

Jardim masterminded a decisive 3-1 first-leg win at the Emirates in February, with the Portuguese coach claiming that the Frenchman never offered a post-match handshake.

He responded in kind by snubbing Wenger last Tuesday when the Gunners won 2-0 at Stade Louis II to confirm their elimination on away goals.

However, the Arsenal boss has refuted Jardim's claims and insists that he did offer a congratulatory handshake after the first leg.

"Pictures show that I waited to congratulate the Monaco coach after the game. He celebrated his victory with his staff, which I quite understand," he told L'Equipe.

"I congratulated him after the press conference. I am therefore surprised and disappointed to hear such lies.

"That said, I wish Monaco all the best and good luck for the future."

Monaco will face Juventus in the quarter-final stage.
