Martin Keown: 'Arsenal were overrun by Tottenham Hotspur'

Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown says that Tottenham Hotspur stopped the Gunners from playing their best football in Sunday's North London derby.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has stated that Tottenham Hotspur stopped the Gunners from playing their best football in Sunday's North London derby.

Arsenal needed a 77th minute equaliser from Kieran Gibbs to earn a 1-1 draw against their rivals on Sunday, after Harry Kane had given the visitors the lead at the Emirates Stadium.

Keown has claimed that Arsenal's players looked resigned to defeat before Gibbs scored.

"Arsenal were completely overrun in midfield against Tottenham, with their passing game disrupted by the visitors' excellent pressing," the former centre-back told the Daily Mail.

"Arsenal's players looked like they knew they were fighting a losing battle, and it felt like the only thing that got them back into the game was their stubbornness not to allow their local rivals to beat them.

"There have been many matches over the years when Arsenal have battered Tottenham and come away with a draw, so Arsene Wenger will definitely see this result as a point gained given their level of performance."

Arsenal take on West Bromwich Albion when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
