Arsene Wenger tips Yaya Sanogo for "big future"

Arsene Wenger says that striker Yaya Sanogo has a "big future" at Arsenal following his four-goal haul in the thrashing of Benfica in the Emirates Cup.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has tipped striker Yaya Sanogo to enjoy a "big future" at the club after finally opening his account in Saturday's Emirates Cup win over Benfica.

The 21-year-old struck no fewer than four goals in a 5-1 demolition of the Portuguese champions in north London yesterday, with Joel Campbell scoring the other.

Sanogo failed to find the net at all in an injury-blighted maiden season at the Emirates Stadium last year, and Wenger believes that the youngster can now kick on from his four-goal haul.

"Sanogo was injured for basically two years before he came to us," he told Sky Sports News.

"If you look at his goalscoring record before he got injured, it is quite frightening. For a while when he came back last season, he could not score.

"You could see when he scored the first goal today, suddenly they can rain in. He has a big future here, of course, he is 21."

With each goal scored equating to a point in the Emirates Cup format, the Gunners sit top of their pre-season tournament with eight points ahead of their game against AS Monaco later today.
