Fernando Amorebieta is a target for both Arsenal and Anzhi Makhachkala, according to his brother.

Arsenal are reportedly in a battle with Anzhi Makhachkala for the signature of Athletic Bilbao centre-back Fernando Amorebieta.

Arsene Wenger is keen on shoring up his back four and sees the Venezuelan as an ideal candidate, according to The Express.

The 27-year-old has been a key component in Los Leones' lineup since breaking into the side in 2005, helping the team to reach two Spanish Cup finals as well as last year's Europa League showpiece.

His brother is quoted in Marca as saying: "We are in contact with Arsenal.

"We have had contacts with Anzhi, who are very interested in his services, but given the desire to play in England, that move cannot take place."

Amorebieta has eight caps for his country.
