Arsenal target has contributed to more goals than Lionel Messi this season

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Newcastle, boasts more direct goal contributions than any other player in the world bar one.

Celtic striker and rumoured Arsenal target Odsonne Edouard has directly contributed to more league goals than the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo this season.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, having helped to put Celtic well on course for a record-equalling ninth successive Scottish Premiership title in 2019-20.

Arsenal are understood to be considering Edouard as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whose own future remains uncertain heading into the final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, while Newcastle United have also reportedly made the Celtic striker their top target.

The figures back up both clubs' pursuit of the Frenchman, who has scored 21 goals and assisted 12 more in just 27 top-flight appearances this season.

Edouard therefore boasts better stats than Messi, who has 19 goals and 12 assists, in addition to other high-profile players such as Jadon Sancho, Robert Lewandowski and Timo Werner.

Indeed, only Lazio's Ciro Immobile, who has 27 goals and seven assists in just 26 Serie A outings, can beat Edouard's haul in top divisions around the world, while Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland matches his tally of 33 direct goal contributions.

Edouard joined Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent basis in 2018 and is already enjoying by the far best goalscoring year of his career.
