While Lucas Torreira arrived at Arsenal as a player who was expected to hold down a regular spot in the starting lineup, that has not proven to be the case.
As many as 34 of his 89 appearances in a Gunners shirt have come from the substitutes' bench, including many of his recent outings.
That has led to speculation regarding a potential departure during the summer transfer window as Arsenal bid to recoup close to the £26.4m which they paid for the Uruguay international in 2018.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Atletico Madrid are currently well placed to get a deal for the 24-year-old over the line in the near future.
The report adds that Fiorentina are also keen to give the former Sampdoria man a chance to return to Serie A.

When Bernd Leno suffered a season-ending injury in June, many Arsenal fans would have had concerns over Emiliano Martinez deputising for the German.
However, the stand-in stopper proved to be a revelation between the sticks, helping the Gunners win the FA Cup with victories over Sheffield United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
With Leno closing in on a return to full fitness, it leaves Arteta with a dilemma ahead of next season.
Martinez feels that he should now be ahead of the previous first-choice holder in the pecking order, telling Confidental that he will request a transfer if he is dropped to the substitutes' bench.

According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Maitland-Niles and is prepared to tempt him into making the switch to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
