Arsenal transfer news: Atletico eye Torreira, Martinez threatens exit, Spurs want Maitland-Niles

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Arsenal on Monday, August 10.

Having only finished in eighth position in the Premier League table this season, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is looking to make changes to his first-team squad.

Despite frequent talk about a restricted transfer budget, the club are seemingly ready to meet the Spaniard's demands with regards to fresh faces.

However, that increases the chances of several high-profile departures as the club's board look to remain in line with FFP regulations.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings at the Emirates Stadium.

Atletico Madrid to move for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira?

While Lucas Torreira arrived at Arsenal as a player who was expected to hold down a regular spot in the starting lineup, that has not proven to be the case.

As many as 34 of his 89 appearances in a Gunners shirt have come from the substitutes' bench, including many of his recent outings.

That has led to speculation regarding a potential departure during the summer transfer window as Arsenal bid to recoup close to the £26.4m which they paid for the Uruguay international in 2018.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Atletico Madrid are currently well placed to get a deal for the 24-year-old over the line in the near future.

The report adds that Fiorentina are also keen to give the former Sampdoria man a chance to return to Serie A.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez threatens Arsenal exit

When Bernd Leno suffered a season-ending injury in June, many Arsenal fans would have had concerns over Emiliano Martinez deputising for the German.

However, the stand-in stopper proved to be a revelation between the sticks, helping the Gunners win the FA Cup with victories over Sheffield United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

With Leno closing in on a return to full fitness, it leaves Arteta with a dilemma ahead of next season.

Martinez feels that he should now be ahead of the previous first-choice holder in the pecking order, telling Confidental that he will request a transfer if he is dropped to the substitutes' bench.

Report: Tottenham Hotspur lodge interest in Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles

At a time when Arsenal are being linked with several players who will command big wages, it leaves club officials looking to save money in other areas.

Despite the wishes of Arteta, it has been suggested that the Gunners hierarchy are prepared to sell versatile academy graduate Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Inevitably, that has led to the Englishman being linked with a wide range of teams who may feel that a player of the 22-year-old's attributes can benefit them during a congested campaign.

According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Maitland-Niles and is prepared to tempt him into making the switch to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal are allegedly looking to receive in the region of £30m.
