Liverpool to pay record-breaking fee for Jack Butland?

Jack Butland reportedly favours a move to Liverpool over Arsenal and is in line to join the Reds from Stoke City in a £40m transfer.

Liverpool are confident of signing Jack Butland from Premier League rivals Stoke City for a record-breaking fee, according to a report.

The Reds are said to be prepared to hand over £40m for the England international, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in world football.

Butland is a strong contender to replace Joe Hart as the Three Lions' first-choice stopper in this summer's World Cup finals, having once again impressed for a struggling Stoke side this term.

Arsenal are also rumoured to have made their interest known in the 25-year-old, but The Mirror suggests that Anfield is his preferred choice as he wants to work under Jurgen Klopp.

Ederson holds the current record for most expensive goalkeeper after joining Manchester City from Benfica for £34.7m last summer, while Jordan Pickford swapped Sunderland for Everton in a £30m deal.
