Tim Sherwood to "drop" Tom Cleverley for FA Cup final unless he signs Aston Villa deal

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood jokes that he will drop Tom Cleverley from his side's FA Cup final squad if the on-loan midfielder does not sign permanently for the club.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has joked that he will drop Tom Cleverley from his side's FA Cup final squad if the midfielder does not sign permanently for the club.

The 25-year-old Manchester United loanee scored his third goal in as many games in the Villans' 1-0 win against West Ham United on Saturday.

Cleverley's Red Devils contract expires on June 30 and he will then be free to talk to other clubs, but Sherwood hopes that he will pledge his future to Villa.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss told reporters: "We'd like to keep him but he's obviously got a few options – even more now. I'll just tell him if he won't sign he's not playing in the cup final!"

The FA Cup final will be contested between Aston Villa and Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on May 30.
