Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has refused to specifically discuss the club's interest in Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert, but revealed that the club tried to get signings over the line on transfer deadline day.
On Monday, it was reported that the Midlands outfit made a late move for Lambert, but the Reds forward rejected the offer.
Firepower up front is much needed for Villa as they have scored just 11 times in 23 Premier League games this season.
"I don't want to talk about other clubs' players, but I tried to bring in one or two players," Lambert told reporters in this afternoon's press conference.
"But until someone walks in your door, you're never sure it will happen. We have to get that last third of the game right, as that's where you win games. It's an area in the pitch we have to improve."
This weekend, Villa will take on Chelsea on home turf.
