Barcelona defender Dani Alves wants his side to extend their La Liga lead even further rather than taking their foot off the pedal.

Barcelona defender Dani Alves has warned his teammates not to take their foot off the pedal despite their fine start to the season.

Barcelona have made the best start to a La Liga season ever, dropping just two points from their opening 17 matches, a run that has given them a nine-point lead over Atletico Madrid and a 16-point lead over reigning champions Real Madrid.

However, Alves is eager for his side to extend their advantage even further in their quest to regain the league title.

"We've built a considerable advantage because we've made the most of our opponents dropping points," he said.

"But it's an advantage that we need to look after, because we still have many games left. We're only at matchday 17. We must work to extend this advantage after the resumption."

Alves has recently been linked with a move away from Barcelona, but the Brazilian insists that he is happy at the club.
