Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong 'to join Barcelona in 2019'

Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong will join Barcelona in next summer's transfer window, according to a report.

Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong will reportedly join Barcelona in next summer's transfer window.

The 20-year-old, who is believed to be a transfer target for a number of European clubs, has scored once and registered nine assists in 26 appearances for Ajax this season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona had initially wanted to sign the Dutchman this summer, but the La Liga giants have now decided to wait until the end of next season.

The report claims that the two clubs are close to an agreement, with Barcelona seeing De Jong as the perfect player to boost their options in the middle of the park.

De Jong, who is a Netherlands Under-21 international, joined Ajax from Willem II in 2015.
