Gary Rowett plays down Birmingham City points deduction fears

Gary Rowett insists that he will keep Birmingham City in the Championship this season, even if they are hit with a hefty points deduction.

Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett is confident that his side will avoid any sort of points deduction following the collapse of the club's parent company.

It was revealed earlier this week that Birmingham International Holdings Limited, the company that owns the Championship side, had entered voluntary receivership.

The Football League may choose to punish the Blues as a result, which could see their current tally of 39 points significantly reduced.

However, speaking after last night's 1-1 draw against league leaders Middlesbrough, Rowett told reporters: "I don't think it will come to that.

"I think the club is financially stable, it's more a situation with the parent company - again hopefully that shouldn't affect the day to day running of the football club.

"[If it did] we would probably be in the same situation we were when I took over, at that point I was very confident we would get out of any trouble because I have got complete belief in what we do and belief in the players. I can't control that, I said that to the players, 'Off the pitch we can't control what happens'."

Birmingham find themselves nine points above the Championship drop zone, sitting in 12th place in the league table.
