  • Gloves off: Chelsea face Premier League competition for Sanchez successor?

Chelsea will reportedly have to fend off competition from Manchester United if they are to secure the services of Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel this summer.

In late 2024, it was claimed that the Blues had registered their interest in the Switzerland international, as Enzo Maresca scopes out possible replacements for the error-strewn Robert Sanchez.

The current Chelsea number one has already made five mistakes directly leading to a goal in the current Premier League season, the joint-most of any player in the division alongside Ipswich Town's Arijanet Muric.

Sanchez failed to cover himself in glory for Erling Haaland's goal in last weekend's 3-1 loss to Manchester City, and Maresca is facing calls to drop the Spaniard for summer signing Filip Jorgensen for Monday's London derby with West Ham United.

Juventus have reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign defender Lloyd Kelly.

The 26-year-old only arrived are St James' Park in July last year on a free transfer from Bournemouth, penning a long-term deal until the summer of 2029.

However, Kelly has struggled to gain regular first-team football under Eddie Howe and has been limited to just seven starts and seven substitute appearances across all competitions.

Although Kelly is comfortable operating as either a centre-back or left-back, Howe has preferred to select Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Dan Burn and, at times, Emil Krafth at the heart of his defence, while Lewis Hall has impressed throughout this season on the left.

Arsenal have submitted a £2.5m bid for 16-year-old Adana Demirspor goalkeeper Deniz Donmezer, according to the Turkish club's former vice-president.

The Gunners underwent a significant summer of change in the goalkeeping department, firstly making David Raya's loan from Brentford permanent after a successful first season at the club.

Following one season as Raya's backup, Aaron Ramsdale jumped ship for relegation-threatened Southampton on a permanent deadline-day deal, leading the Gunners to bring in Neto on loan from Bournemouth as his replacement.

Arsenal's goalkeeping alterations were not limited to the seniors, as Arthur Okonkwo left on a free transfer for League One outfit Wrexham, while Tommy Setford and Lucas Nygaard both joined the club's academy ranks.

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is reportedly close to agreeing a pre-contract deal with Flamengo ahead of a free transfer to the Brazilian outfit this summer.

The former Chelsea man extended his Gunners contract last year, but his existing terms only run until the end of the season, meaning that he is currently free to speak with foreign clubs.

Jorginho's terms do include a 12-month extension option until the summer of 2026, but Arsenal are expected to seal a deal for Real Sociedad lynchpin Martin Zubimendi when the summer window reopens.

As a result, Jorginho will continue to be a bit-part player under Mikel Arteta, even if Thomas Partey - also in the final six months of his deal - moves on at the end of the 2024-25 campaign too.

There has been widespread speculation regarding the future of the Frenchman over the past week given his continued lack of game time at the Allianz Arena.

Although club officials have acknowledged that the 19-year-old could move on before Monday's transfer deadline, it remains unclear whether the player will jump at an opportunity to depart Bayern at this stage.

Previous reports have indicated that Tottenham Hotspur had reached an agreement with Bayern over a transfer fee should Tel wish to move to North London, something which looks unlikely.

All of the above has become synonymous with transfer deadline day, where despite having had at least a full month to either bring in new faces or shift deadwood, many clubs leave their business until the eleventh hour.

That is not the case for rejuvenated Premier League champions Manchester City, who have already splashed the cash on Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov this month, or Aston Villa, whose high-profile sale of Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr is the most expensive dealing so far.

However, a plethora of other Premier League clubs will be working around the clock to either improve or trim down their squads before the deadline strikes, and here, Sports Mole rounds up everything you need to know about transfer deadline day for January 2025.
