Celta Vigo gain survival in La Liga with a final day win over Espanyol.

Celta Vigo have survived relegation by a single point, thanks to a 1-0 win over Espanyol on the final day of the La Liga season.

A single Natxo Insa goal gave the home side the victory, which meant that they finished in 17th place.

The hosts started well and put pressure on their opponents with a series of early corners, one of which led to the opening goal.

Iago Aspas found Insa free in the box and the midfielder made no mistake, firing the ball into the top corner to give his side the lead.

Alex Lopez and Michael Krohn-Dehli both missed good chances to score in the closing minutes of the first half, but neither could find the target from inside the box.

Espanyol were better after the break and created a good opportunity when Sergio Garcia was played through, but the striker fired his shot just wide from the right hand side of the area.

That was the last chance either team created and it was Celta Vigo who took all three points on the final day of the season.
