Roman Abramovich has reportedly demanded answers from Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas over his team selection during the Blues' 3-1 Champions League defeat to Napoli on Tuesday.
Villas-Boas came under fire for starting the game with Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Michael Essien on the bench.
The Portuguese manager revealed that Abramovich sent Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo to quiz him.
"I did not speak to the owner but instead the people close to him, like Emenalo and others, to transmit the message," Villas-Boas said.
"They were sent to ask me. That's the normal way we communicate. I see it as normal.
"He just wants to know my thought process during my selection. The owner was disappointed with the result and asked questions about the team and I duly answered."
