Baba Rahman: 'Michael Essien, Christian Atsu backed my move to Chelsea'

New Chelsea signing Baba Rahman reveals that Ghanaian compatriots and former Blues duo Michael Essien and Christian Atsu have backed his move to Stamford Bridge.

New Chelsea signing Baba Rahman has revealed that former Blues midfielder Michael Essien was one of the reasons that he opted to move to Stamford Bridge.

Between 2005 and 2014, Essien made 265 appearances in West London, and Rahman has admitted that he sought advice from his Ghanaian compatriot, and current Chelsea player Christian Atsu, before completing his transfer at the weekend.

The 21-year-old told the club's official website: "I spoke with both of them and they were very positive about Chelsea. They told me it was a great club with very nice people, which was good to hear.

"I watched Essien whenever I could. In Ghana, they only showed the Premier League at that time so I was always watching him, he was a great player for Chelsea."

Reports have suggested that Rahman will make his debut against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
