Chelsea could reportedly battle Manchester City for the signature of Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez during this summer's transfer window.
The Uruguay international has allegedly been identified by City as a leading transfer target, with Pep Guardiola's side thought to be determined to sign a new central defender ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
However, according to The Telegraph, Chelsea have also scouted the South American as the Blues consider improving their back-line during the upcoming market.
The newspaper claims that Frank Lampard's side would need to offload at least one centre-back in order to sign Gimenez, while the 25-year-old's asking price could also be an issue.
A recent report claimed that Atletico had made it clear that they would not be prepared to listen to offers of under €120m (£109m) for the former Danubio youngster.
Gimenez, who has a contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until the summer of 2023, has made 26 appearances for Diego Simeone's side during the 2019-20 campaign.
