Danny Drinkwater confirms he will leave Chelsea

Midfielder Danny Drinkwater confirms that he is looking to take on a new challenge having been told that he is free to depart Chelsea.

Danny Drinkwater has confirmed that he is hoping to depart Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

Despite costing £35m in 2017, Drinkwater has made just 23 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, spending the last campaign on loan at Burnley and Aston Villa respectively.

During his temporary period away from Stamford Bridge, the Englishman failed to make a positive impression, leaving him struggling to attract bids from clubs ahead of the new season.

At a time when Chelsea may be prepared to hand the 30-year-old a free transfer, Drinkwater has acknowledged that he will leave the West Londoners in the near future.

On Instagram, he said: "Back at Chelsea only for pre-season. Working hard, trying to get fit and in the best shape I can be for wherever I go next.

"As much as I would like to be settled at a club like I should be, the unknown is kinda exciting."

Drinkwater still has two years remaining on his contract at the Premier League outfit.
