Chelsea-linked Michy Batshuayi confirms Marseille departure

Michy Batshuayi announces in a statement that he will leave Marseille this summer, opening the door for Chelsea to finalise a reported £32.2m deal for the striker.

Chelsea have been given a boost in their pursuit of signing Michy Batshuayi after the striker confirmed that he will depart Marseille this summer.

The 22-year-old is thought to have already passed a medical at Stamford Bridge ahead of a £32.2m deal being finalised between the two clubs.

Batshuayi, also a reported target for Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Juventus this summer, can now focus on his playing future at club level after his Belgium side were knocked out of Euro 2016 by Wales on Friday evening.

Widespread reports suggest that a move could be completed as early as Monday, with Marseille eager to sell as soon as possible due to a potential fine from the French league's governing body if they do not improve their financial position.

"It should be made official tomorrow, I will leave Marseille this summer," Batshuayi said in a statement. "Above all, I wanted especially to thank all the Marseille supporters. During these two years at the club that I have loved since my childhood, you have shown me all your affection and support."

Batshuayi, who is expected to sign a five-year deal at Chelsea, scored 17 goals for Marseille last season to see his name linked with numerous clubs.
