Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew says that Christian Benteke is fired up to face former club Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has revealed that Christian Benteke is keen to impress against former club Liverpool this weekend.

Benteke, 25, joined Liverpool from Aston Villa in the summer of 2015, but spent just one season on Merseyside before making the move to Palace before the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

Benteke has scored three Premier League goals for the Eagles this season, and Pardew has claimed that the Belgian international wants to prove a point in Saturday's Premier League fixture with the Reds.

"When you've not had the opportunity you think you deserve, it's natural to be up for this game. Christian is playing with a smile on his face. Every player wants to play, especially great players like him," Pardew told reporters.

Palace have won three of their last five Premier League meetings with Liverpool, but lost 2-1 in the corresponding fixture last season courtesy of a stoppage-time winning penalty from Benteke.
