Callum Ball has returned to Derby County after his two-month loan spell at Torquay United came to an end.
The 21-year-old striker scored twice in 11 appearances for the Gulls, with both goals coming in the 4-2 win over Cheltenham last month.
Torquay said on their official website: "The Gulls were initially keen on extending the deal but fitness concerns over the first-choice centre-back pairing of Krystian Pearce and Aaron Downes means that Yellow resources need to be spent on other departments.
"Everybody at United would like to thank Callum for his hard work at the club and we wish him the best for his future."
Ball now has a chance to impress new manager Steve McClaren back at Derby.
