England captain Wayne Rooney has denied reports that a number of senior players lost faith in Roy Hodgson during Euro 2016.
The Three Lions crashed out of the competition in the last 16 last night following a 2-1 defeat to Iceland - a result which has since been described as one of the most embarrassing moments in England's football history.
Reports emerged earlier today that Hodgson, who resigned in the immediate aftermath of the defeat, had lost the dressing room, but Rooney has insisted that is not the case.
"In response to recent media reports, I'd like to say that is completely untrue," he said in a statement.
"On behalf of the players, we completely supported the England manager but we understand his reasons for stepping down. We had absolute faith in the build-up and throughout the tournament."
Gareth Southgate has been installed as the early favourite to take over as England's new manager.
