Sven-Goran Eriksson denies Sol Campbell claims

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson plays down Sol Campbell's claim that he would have been England captain for 10 years had he not been black.

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has played down Sol Campbell's claim that he was treated differently by the Football Association because he was black.

The 39-year-old, who won 73 caps for the Three Lions, has claimed that he would have been captain of England for more than 10 years had he been white.

Eriksson, who worked with Campbell during his stint as England boss, has insisted that there were never any issues over the captaincy during his time in charge.

"Not a chance - during my years, not a chance," he told the Daily Telegraph.

"As you know, from my first to my last game, I had David Beckham (as captain) and there were never, ever any discussions at all in the team or in the FA about the captain."

Eriksson was England manager from 2001 to 2006.
