Oliver Bierhoff: 'Germany is behind struggling Lukas Podolski'

Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff tells out-of-form Lukas Podolski not to worry about losing his place at international level for the moment.

Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff has reassured Lukas Podolski that his international future does not hang in the balance despite struggling at club level.

The out-of-form forward has struggled in Italy following a loan move to Inter Milan from Arsenal and is yet to score for the Nerazzurri.

Consequently, the 30-year-old has come under fire from the Italian media and Inter coach Roberto Mancini in recent weeks.

However, Podolski has not lost the support of Germany coach Joachim Low, who selected him for upcoming games against Australia and Georgia, and Bierhoff says that the World Cup winner has done too much to be dropped.

"Generally, it is part of the way we handle things, part of our idea that we help out our players who are struggling," he told reporters.

"Lukas Podolski really has contributed a lot in the national team over the last couple of years, so if he is living [with] a tough team, we are there for him.

"He certainly has the potential and the quality."

Earlier this month Podolski - whose contract with the Gunners expires in 2016 - refused to rule out a return to North London.
