Steve Bruce is glad that promotion is in Hull City's hands with five games left of the season.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has admitted that he is pleased his side's chances of promotion are in their own hands.

Bruce did say, however, that he is aware that they must perform better than they did against Middlesbrough if they are to get the points required in the final five league games.

"It's in our hands and that is all we could have asked for," he told the club's official website.

"We did miss an opportunity last week [against Watford] in a game that could have gone either way, but we came back on Saturday and produced a performance that wasn't great, but it was one where our guts got us through it and put the pressure back on others.

"We go to Ipswich now and we'll see where we are after that. We've got to play better than we did against Middlesbrough at the weekend, we understand that."

Hull are three points ahead of Watford but five behind leaders Cardiff City.
