Los Angeles Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez hails Landon Donovan as the forward retires from the game at the age of 32 following his side's MLS Cup final win.

Los Angeles Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez has revealed that his side were determined to win the MLS Cup to send teammate Landon Donovan out on a high note.

Donovan ended his illustrious playing career at the age of 32, following the Galaxy's 2-1 win over the New England Revolution sealing his sixth title in his 14 years in the league.

Gonzalez told the club's official website: "It means everything to him. To win another championship, to go to battle one last time. It looked to me like he was leaving it all out there. When Landon does that, we seem to win games.

"It was an amazing time, an amazing six years with Landon. He's been an inspiration, a role model for myself and a bunch of the young guys on this team. He's a legend. I can't say enough about the guy."

The triumph over the Revolution was the fifth time the Galaxy had lifted the MLS Cup.
