Thomas Christiansen: 'I want to take Leeds United back into Premier League'

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen wants to be the man who takes the former English top-flight giants back into the Premier League.

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has expressed his desire to be the man who takes the former English top-flight giants back into the Premier League.

The Whites have won three First Division titles in their history, the latest of which came in 1992, but have been out of the top flight since 2004 and even spent time in League One in the late 2000s.

Now firmly established in the Championship, they narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs last season, spending most of the season in the top six before finishing seventh in the table.

"I hope we're on the way back and I hope I can be the one who can take them back [to the Premier League]," Christiansen told Sky Sports News.

"It's a big club, you can see it with the support and fans they have. I heard it's already sold out for the first league game at home, which is amazing.

"It looks like the fans are a little bit more optimistic for this season, which is good. It brings a bit more pressure but I like to have this pressure on me."

Leeds are under different ownership this season after Andrea Radrizzani completed a full buyout from previous co-owner Massimo Cellino in May.
